Hello everyone!
I haven't been genuinely happy in a really long time until today. It was truly a blessing to be able to watch my cousin, Yvonne, marrying her boyfriend, Mitchell (now husband) after 8 years of relationship. Kinda makes me question where the hell was I for the past half a decade. Was I asleep, or dead to not know she's dating someone?! The thing about my mother's side of the extended family is that.. We're all scattered around the country, or around the world. Some of us are in KL, Penang, Johor and Perak, while some of us are in Germany, Norway and India. We hardly ever meet. Probably once to thrice a year, and it's usually during the Chinese New Year, or the year end holidays.
Even so, usually half of us aren't there. So, tonight, it was really great to see everyone, as in like, each and every one once again. My cousins and I grew up together. We used to play when we were kids, and I'd cry on the 3rd day of CNY because it was time to leave. Although we rarely talk now (mostly due to distance), but I still think we're very close, and somehow know each other inside out.
Watching Yvonne marrying Mitchell somehow made me really, really happy. It's like, you just know when you see true love, and I see it in both of them. I teared a little, inside.. I probably didn't see it when I watched my other cousins got married, probably because I was still young, then, and I didn't really pay much attention to their expressions. Now that I'm older, I see it. The look on Mitchell's face when he saw Yvonne walk down the aisle for the first time in her wedding dress. The sound of their voice when they exchanged their written vows, and how they looked at each other while saying, "I do." Not just their faces, but the things they do for each other too. From bigger issues like how Yvonne had to sacrifice her career in UK to move to Norway with him, to minor ones like, doing things she'd never done before, for him. Like learning how to dance. Their first (married) couple dance was too sweet, I wanted to burst out in tears..
To be honest, it was also the first garden wedding I attended. I thought it was going to be hot, sweaty and sticky. But God bless them on this joyous day, the weather was just great. The rain stopped right before the ceremony started. It was wet, but the sun was just nice. I have no other words to describe the garden ceremony except, just beautiful..
Mitchell is a really great guy. We've all hung out quite a few times before, and I see similarities in their character. They're both really witty, which I assume is what brought them together? Well, I guess the reason for why I am genuinely happy tonight is simply because - they gave me hope. That someday, I'll my time will come, and I will be that beautiful girl marrying a really handsome, great guy.
But anyways, tonight was a great way to end my holidays. Back to college on Monday, so here's to a happy new year to the newlyweds Yvonne and Mitchell, and everyone else! (:
